Why War is Never a Good Idea/Why Brokeback Mountain is Always a Good Idea
Alice Walker - 18 minutes.
In looking for resources to introduce all kinds of of subject matter to young children, I came across this video. In it Alice Walker talks about her book-Why War is Never a Good Idea. She isn't condemning self defense, which i appreciate. But she speaks from the standpoint of the earth, explaining how the earth is always the casualty of any conflicts we have, and how war, no matter how 'justified,' is never justified from the standpoint of our earth...it always alienates us from our earth and pollutes it and just really damages it/her. I think respect for the earth is an apprpriate value to foster in children.
Oh...and I finally found that depressing but amazing sad guitar instrumental from Brokeback Mountain ! :)/:(
This shit is so sad...especially in the context of the movie...it makes me want to be sad just so I could curl up under my covers while crying and listening to it on repeat. Yes, that's tomfoolery, I'll admit. But sad songs have a way of doing that to me...I think I have a secret love for depressing shit.
Um...random...but I wish I could find an earth-based spiritual center/internet resource filled with people of color worshiping the moon...I've been kinda on my, I need the goddess shit...as well as on my...I want to be initiated!!...into some kind of practice shit...if wicca wasn't so melanin challenged and historically inaccurate, I'd be sold. Blessed be gets me every time. Quirky old wiccan white ladies with celtic tattoos have a special place in my heart...but celtic images and ideas don't necessarily resonate with me culturally...i mean symbols are symbols, and i understand that they ultimately arise from the collective unconscious, and therefore i can theoretically derive power from any symbol i choose to don...but something about me wearing wiccan/celtic symbols is slightly off-putting...but shit maybe i'll do it anyway
Aside: If Europeans never felt the need to 'civilize' Africans while forcing their own indigenous religions underground, maybe i'd be getting initiated into some kind of practice right now. fuckers.
Maybe i need to make up my own shit.
